Hepatitis E Virus Genotype 1, Cuba

چکیده
never carried to the sites where they were housed or taken out for grazing. Thus, the only way for the infant patient to be infected would be environmental exposure. Since the infant had not been carried to the animal sites, the pathogen must have been transmitted to the household by the clothes or skin of the father or grandfather, who had been shepherding the infected animals. Subsequently, the baby became infected either by inhaling infected aerosolized particles or by direct transmission of the pathogen through minor skin abrasions (which were specifi cally looked for on admission but were not seen) or mucosal surfaces. This case suggests that B. melitensis may even affect persons who are not directly exposed to infected animals, through direct contact with contaminated persons or the environment. In this context, brucellosis can be considered as not simply a household disease but as a disease of the house.

Analysis of hepatitis C virus core encoding sequences in chronically infected patients reveals mutability, predominance, genetic history and potential impact on therapy of Cuban genotype 1b isolates.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes are relevant to epidemiological questions, vaccine development, and clinical management of chronic HCV infection. In the present work, we aimed at investigating HCV genotype, variability and genetic history of HCV isolates in Cuba from a sample of chronically infected patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS A prospective study, involving 73 C...
متن کاملThe Frequency of Genotype D of Hepatitis B Virus in Isfahan, Iran
Background: Approximately 600,000 deaths occur every year as a result of the acute and chronic consequences of hepatitis B virus infection. Ten different hepatitis B virus genotypes have been identified with distinct geographical distributions. Different clinical outcomes, including the rate of mutations, development of hepatocellular carcinoma, chronicity, response to treatment, transplantatio...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity of the Hepatitis B Virus Strains in Cuba: Absence of West-African Genotypes despite the Transatlantic Slave Trade
Cuba is an HBsAg low-prevalence country with a high coverage of anti-hepatitis B vaccine. Its population is essentially the result of the population mix of Spanish descendants and former African slaves. Information about genetic characteristics of hepatitis B virus (HBV) strains circulating in the country is scarce. The HBV genotypes/subgenotypes, serotypes, mixed infections, and S gene mutatio...

متن کاملDistribution of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Genotypes among HBV Carriers in Isparta
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes in Isparta, Southwest of Turkey, as well as the clinical features and transmission route for patients with HBV infections. Methods: Patients (n = 135) with HBV infection were included in the study. Epidemiological and clinical data were obtained. HBV genotypes were determined with a preS2 epitope ELISA ...
متن کاملHepatitis B virus genotyping in asymptomatic HBV blood donors in Tehran
Abstract Background and Objectives Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a serious global health challenge. Hepatitis B infection is one of the major diseases transmitted by blood transfusion. Infection with the virus can cause extensive liver damage. So far, 10 genotypes have been identified for hepatitis B. The aim of this study was to do Hepatitis B virus genotyping in asymptomatic HBV...
